Just to catch readers up with progress on my eBay business, here are the summary details starting from November 2007 when we started properly. We did have some activity related to building our feedback, and establishing product sources from July/August 2007, but I let a couple of setbacks and busyness with other businesses, get in the way of progress until November!
So profit in October was $0
Profit in November was ~$900
Profit in December was ~$1000
January (last month) ~$1200
Now, the challenging part was that we actually turned over nearly $20,000 in January, including a $2,900 sale off eBay... Profit was $3000 but of that we had to pay GST of close to $1800!
Now this month included moving 20 to 30 units of stock that were the wrong model sent by our suppliers in China... plus some other stock dramas, so the profitability of many of the January sales was just not there.
In fact, we made a loss on some auctions.
Not a nice feeling!
Anyway, stay tuned to discover how we have turned these nasty figures around!
Cheers
Peter

eBay Business Strategy? What's 4keBayDiary All About?
Hi
What's this Blog got to do with an eBay Business Strategy?
Setting up this blog has slid mercilessly down my To Do list now for several months! But finally, here it is.
It's an anecdotal diary record / history of our journey of setting up a part-time eBay business. Strategy, tactics, tools, tips, sad stories, moments of frustration... elation, hard slog and excitement... hopefully it'll all be here on this blog!
But first a confession...
We started our eBay business in earnest in November 2007, and I should have started this blog then... but I didn't, so a bit of catch up is in order!
As of now, it's January 29th, and just so you know we're not just a couple of wannebe's fiddling around, we have just hit over 100 positive feedbacks, and at the end of this month will have turned over just shy of $20,000 AUS. This will be our third month.
I haven't calculated nett income yet, that will be for another post - watch this space.
Why "4k-On-eBay-Diary"?
Well, as an internet marketer for many years, I've always enjoyed the people who've presented Case Studies, Diary Notes, stories and anecdotes etc. There's just something more readable and believable about them, especially when they include the warts-and-all version!
And the 4K bit?
Well, it refers to $4,000 per month. And while this is a relatively modest goal compared to most of the $10,000/mth, or $43,000 in 7 days hypola we get from the gurus, it was my first goal in checking out of eBay was going to be a viable vehicle for my needs.
A genuine $4K/mth is the same (in pre-tax dollars) as a $50,000 job, which is more than what the "average" person in my country earns a year. Also they work between 40 and 60 hours a week for that -I intend my eBay business to be around the 10 to 15 hours per week max...
Also, $50K per annum as a business is usually much more tax effective than a J.O.B... so it's really more comparable to $60K or more.
If that is achievable, its a realistic and attractive model. You can use that to nicely supplement your income to pay the mortgage, car payments, etc., or you can use it as a milestone, and keep powering on to double, triple or more that figure to something far more impressive!
Can it be done?
Thats what this eBay Business Strategy Diary is all about.
I'll keep you posted.
